Did you follow the guide in setting up the TAGS but is the wrong title, description or image showing after sharing. Most like there is a caching issue then, either on your website or in Facebook or Twitter. Follow the steps below to purge the cache so the correct TAG is used.
Clearing cache on local website
The first check if the wrong TAG is showed on Facebook or Twitter is validate that the proper TAG is used in the source code of your website. This can be done by viewing the source code in your browser:
Step by Step Instructions using Google Chrome (similar instructions using other browsers)
- Open the Google Chrome web browser (if you do not have Google Chrome installed, this is a free download).
- Navigate to the web page you would like to examine.
- Right-click the page and look at the menu that appears. From that menu, click View page source.
- The source code for that page will now appear as a new tab in the browser.
Alternatively, you can also use the keyboard shortcuts of CTRL + U on a PC to open a window with a site's source code displayed. On a Mac, this shortcut is Command + Option + U.
Search for "TAGZ" or e.g. "og:image"
In the source code search for "TAGZ" or e.g. "og:image". Check the TAGS that are displayed here to see if they match the ones you have defined. If they match, proceed to the Facebook or Twitter part of this issue. If not clear cache of your website. Please follow this Official Joomla! link how to do so. If you are using a Content Delivery Network (or CDN) do not forget to clear cache of this as well if the TAGS are still not the right one in the source code.
Clear cache of Facebook for an url
If the source code shows the proper TAGs but sharing a page using Facebook still results in an old (or wrong) preview you most likely need to clear cache of that particular url in Facebook. For this visit the Facebook Debugger, enter the url like the image below and hit the Debug button.
Then click the Scrape again button to force a rescrape of the page:
Now the proper preview should be displayed. If not, please get in touch.
Clear cache for LinkedIn
Clearing cache for LinkedIn can be done by visiting the LinkedIn post inspector, followed by entering the particular url and hit the "inspect" button. Done!
Clear cache for Twitter Cards
Clearing cache for Twitter Cards is even more simple. In order to do so visit the Twitter Card validator, enter the url and hit "preview card". That's it! :-)
